Man, 70s, dies after getting into difficulty swimming in Galway beach

A pensioner has died after getting into difficulty while swimming at Salthill in Co Galway.

The alarm was raised around midday today at Blackrock Beach, gardaí confirmed.

The man in his late 70s was brought ashore, but efforts to revive him failed.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Galway for a post mortem examination.
