Gardaí investigating after digger used to steal ATM from Monaghan bank

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a digger was used to steal an ATM from the wall of a bank in Monaghan.

A digger was used to break a hole into the wall of a Bank of Ireland to remove the ATM, at around 3am this morning.

Gardaí say the cashpoint was loaded onto a trailer in Ballybay, before heading off in the direction of Cootehill or Carrickmacross.

Investigators believe the vehicle in question is a Toyota Land Cruiser.

A tractor, which was used to transport the digger to the scene, was set on fire.

The Main Street has been sealed off, and diversions in the area are currently in place.

An investigation is now underway and anyone with information is asked to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 9690190.
