Teenager accused of €8k stolen card spree

The 17-year-old boy appeared at the Dublin Children’s Court charged with 26 counts of theft from a named man on August 13.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place in Dublin city centre, Donnybrook, and Dolphin’s Barn.

They allegedly happened at a hotel and retailers including a Maxol garage, Marks & Spencer, a Centra, a Spar, a Gamestop outlet, and branches of Argos, Carphone Warehouse, Lifestyle Sports, Footlocker, Eason, Champion Sports, Vodafone, and Compu B.

It also alleged that some money was stolen from an ATM at a medical centre.

The boy — who was accompanied to court by a relative and his solicitor — was remanded on bail by Judge John O’Connor to appear again in November for directions from the DPP to be obtained.

The boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, made no reply when charged and has not yet entered a plea.

Legal aid was granted.

A decision has yet to be made on whether the case will remain the Children’s Court or be sent forward to the Circuit Court which can impose lengthier sentences.
