Men killed in Waterford crash named
A formal identification of the three men — who died after their car caught fire following a collision on the N72 outside Dungarvan — may still take a number of days.
However, two of the three were named locally as Mr Dixon, who was in his 20s and from Dungarvan; and Mr Tobin from Old Parish in Co Waterford, who was in his 30s.
Tributes were paid to both men on social media.
“Rest in peace Eamon Dixon,” one Facebook user posted.
“Such tragic news you were such a lovely person so kind & Christmas just around the corner it’s so sad. And rest in peace too Mikey Tobin also a nice man that always was full of his fun always messing and joking about things half the time you wouldn’t know was he serious or messing,” the tribute read.
Investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
Five of the six people in the other vehicle continue to recover from their injuries in hospital. They are Mary Bermingham; her partner Gary Fenton; and her four children, who are aged between six and 14 years old.
Meanwhile, the funeral arrangements for the 21-year-old killed in a crash outside Fermoy, Co Cork, on Monday morning have been announced.
Kieran Colgan died at the scene after his car collided with a 4X4 at approximately 8am on Monday morning.
Mr Colgan will lie in repose at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Kilbehenny, from 5pm to 8pm this evening followed by removal to Mitchelstown Parish Church, where his funeral Mass will be held tomorrow.
Elsewhere, the funeral of a young woman who died in a single-car collision outside Cork on Friday night was held yesterday.
Mandy O’Leary, 29, from Farranree in Cork City, was driving northbound the on N20 Cork-to-Limerick road when the incident took place, near the turn off for Blarney at approximately 10.25pm.
Her requiem mass took place at the Church of the Resurrection in Farranree, followed by burial at St Catherine’s Cemetery, Kilcully.
