Woman gets suspended term over €80k drug stash

Jennifer Maguire, aged 24, of Willow Wood Walk, Hartstown, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of selling or supplying it to another person at Coolmine Cottages on December, 11 2014.

Gardaí found cannabis in a bedroom, in a clothes dryer in another room, and in a sports bag. A notebook, a weighing scales, a cannabis grinder, and a number of bags were also found.

Maguire admitted to knowing there were drugs in the house, telling gardaí that there was “a lot but I wouldn’t have a notion of what weight”. She said she owned the drugs found in the bedroom and in the dryer.

The accused also admitted to knowing about the drugs found in the sports bag but denied having received them herself. Garda Orla Madden told the court she accepted that the cannabis found in the sports bag did not belong to Maguire and that this accounted for the vast majority of the drugs discovered during the search.

Gda Madden told Judge Terence O’Sullivan Maguire was surprised when she heard the drugs’ value of €82,414. She also said she accepted Maguire was not the primary holder of the drugs in the sports bag.

Judge O’Sullivan said it was clear Ms Maguire was not a big-time dealer and sentenced her to two years, suspended for two years.
