Inspector Bill Duane said that when gardaí arrived at the scene they found the accused, Garett Brown, bleeding heavily from the head and in a hysterical condition.

Eyewitnesses told Garda Dinah Birnbaum that Brown, aged 21, of 36 Maglin Grove, Togher, Cork, had put his head through the window of Jen’s hair salon on Main St, Carrigaline.

The incident occurred after midnight on November 5, 2015.

Gda Birnbaum saw a large group of youths standing around Brown who was lying on the ground, bleeding from a wound to the right side of his head and in a hysterical state. He refused to go to hospital on the night.

“He had put his head through the shop window,” said Insp Duane.

Apart from the injury he caused to himself, the defendant also caused damage to the hair salon, which had only opened for business one week before this.

The window cost €317 to replace and there were witness expenses of €230.

Judge Marie Keane gave Brown until December 2 to raise €547 to cover the damage and expenses. The judge warned that if the money was not in court and if there was any indication he had not co-operated with the probation service, he would be going to prison in December.

Brown pleaded guilty to being drunk and a danger and to causing criminal damage.
