Donegal councillor John O’Donnell on assault charge
Donegal county councillor John O’Donnell was charged with two cases of assault at Newline Rd in Letterkenny on February 23, 2015.
The court heard that Mr O’Donnell, aged 35, and another man, Conor Ferguson, aged 26, were both charged in relation to incidents which took place on that evening.
Details of the alleged incidents were not given in court.
The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions recommended that Mr O’Donnell’s cases be forwarded to the Circuit Court for trial on indictment.
He is charged with two counts of assault against two different people on the same date.
He is charged with assaulting Emmet Gallagher at the Sultan Takeaway and also with assaulting Seamus O’Donnell at Gortlee, Letterkenny.
Inspector Michael Harrison said a full book of evidence for Mr O’Donnell will have to be prepared. The case was put back until October 24.
Judge Paul Kelly said he would deal with an application for legal aid for Mr O’Donnell on that date.
Mr Ferguson, of Gort Na Ri, Kilmacrennan, is charged with assaulting Kirstie Callaghan, causing her harm, at Station Roundabout.
Judge Paul Kelly refused jurisdiction in this case and also adjourned it until October 24.
