You'll need your poncho! Weather will be as eclectic as Electric Picnic lineup

Tens of thousands of festival-goers will today be double- and triple-checking their lists, airing out the sleeping bags, and getting in the last-minute shopping ahead of this weekend’s music festival.

The festival, whose 55,000 tickets sold out in record time last March, will host headliners LCD Soundsystem, Chemical Brothers, and New Order over three days, as well as a billing of hundreds of acts.

However, Met Éireann has warned that the weekend’s weather will be as eclectic as the musical line-up, with both dry and wet spells predicted.

“Friday will have dry weather, maybe one or two showers, but they’ll be very light in the afternoon, if they come, but the evening will be very dry,” said Met Éireann meteorologist Pat Clarke.

The bad news is that rain is expected for Saturday.

“There will be heavy rain on Saturday, and it will be breezy, but it should fizzle out,” said Mr Clarke. “There is some doubt over the timing, at this stage, but it will definitely improve overnight, and may clear up in the evening before dark.”

Sunday is predicted to be dry overall, with some rainfall possible later, but this will have cleared by Monday morning, when campers will need the dry spell to pack up their tents and head home.

There is good news for those who remember the cold spell that froze campers on the Saturday night of last year’s Picnic.

Temperatures are predicted to range between 10 and 12 degrees celsius at night, which, Mr Clarke said, is above normal for this time of year.

“It won’t fall below ten degrees,” he said of the current forecasts, “and it should reach between 17 and 18 degrees during the day.”

He advised that small changes could affect, by three to four hours, when the forecasted rain will fall, so Picnickers are advised to keep an eye on met.ie for regular updates.

The Electric Picnic General Campervan and Family Campervan will open at 4pm today for campervan ticket holders only, while the general campsite will open at 9am tomorrow.

Those that have day tickets can enter at 11am on Sunday, but will not be permitted to camp at the festival.
