Cork cybersecurity firm beats global firms to win prestigious IBM award
Cork-headquartered cybersecurity firm Smarttech247 has become the first Irish company to win IBM’s Beacon Award for Outstanding Security Solution in California.
Chief executive and founder Ronan Murphy appeared on CNN following the win, which was awarded at the PartnerWorld at Think conference in San Francisco following selection by a panel of expert judges consisting of IBM executives, industry analysts and industry experts.
The award recognised Smarttech247’s work through its certified security operations centres.
Mr Murphy said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition from the IBM Beacon Awards for our innovations in cybersecurity.
Smarttech247’s ability to prevent today's most sophisticated threats before they impact an organisation and deliver business value is what our customers need to accelerate and secure their digital transformation.
Smarttech247 was selected among dozens of global applicants based on an in-depth application process that included customer testimonials.
The firm is predicting €20m in export sales for 2019 for the US market, as a result of a major global expansion.
Smarttech247 is planning to open new locations in Atlanta and Boston in the US, as well as investment in South Africa and Switzerland. The new locations will complement existing operations in Ireland, Romania, Hungary and Poland.
Last year it revealed ambitious expansion plans after opening a new €1.5m hi-tech security operations centre in Cork.
