Café en Seine bar enjoyed sales of €5.6m last year

One of the best-known bars in the country, Café en Seine had sales last year of €5.6m, or more than €100,000 per week.

Located on Dublin’s Dawson Street, the bar is part of the recently enlarged Mercantile Group, which now includes Howl at the Moon, The George and Whelan’s.

The most recent receiver’s extracts for the firm, Perfect Pies Ltd that operated Café en Seine show that it had sales of €5.64m in the year to December 10 last year.

The formation of the enlarged Mercantile Group has taken the business out of receivership.

A receiver extract shows the amount generated in receipts between 2006 and 2015 amounted to €37.28m.

The receiver recorded sales of €2.75m between June and December and also recorded other receipts of €115,434.

Payments paid out by the business during the 2006-2015 period totalled €36.9m.

Payments in the six months to December 10 show that €1.7m was paid out in property costs and expenses; €610,359 in staff costs; €346,271 was paid to the Revenue; and €9,644 was paid out in bank charges.

Café en Seine is now part of the expanded Mercantile Group led by Frank Gleeson.

The group employs about 600 people and has revenues of about €40m a year.

Mr Gleeson, chief executive of the Mercantile Group said: “Café en Seine is one of the premier destinations in Dublin and is trading exceptionally well.

"We’re looking forward to a very successful and exciting year ahead at the venue.”
